Historical Notes
| 1894 | The first mention of the hotel dates back to 1894. Before this date no records can be found in the archives. |
| 1896 | Official opening of the hotel in October 1896. The first publicity appeared as follows: HOTEL INTERNATIONAL close to Kursall Montreux Lakeside. Reopening September 10th 1897 Hotel completely new, recently opened, First class establishment comfortably fully furnished. View spreads over the Lake & Alps, Lift, Electric lighting. Board, Good Food & Service. Moderate Prices. Family Defago who also own the Hotel de la Croix Federale ( Champery. Valais ) |
| 1899 | Montreux establishment is bought by a consortium of business personalities from the Lausanne area. ( F. Hummel, Manager ) |
| 1904 | At the turn of the century the late "HOTEL INTERNATIONAL EDEN" |
| 1914 | The First World War puts a stop to the expansion of tourism in Montreux. The clientele of such Grand Hotels are ruined and the generation that created Montreux disappears. Through lack of money the building soon deteriorates. Montreux and other parts of Switzerland see such establishments turn into convalescent homes. Fortunately the Hotel Eden does not succumb to this extreme. |
| 1920 | Montreux The Crazy Years 1920 – 1939. During the difficult years, Mr. Emile Ebehard – Falleger ( 1877 – 1963 ) takes charge of this property and becomes General Manager of "GRAND HOTEL EDEN". He was associated with the hotel since 1910. |
| 1937 | The death of architect Louis Villard in June 1937. Amongst his architectures were the ( Hotels Suisse, The Excelsior,Villa Toscana & Eden ) |
| 1940 | The Second World War drastically destroys Tourism and the hotel succumbs to the worst time during its history. |
| 1956 | June 1st 1956 sees the end of the reign of Mr. Ebehard and the sale of the hotel to Mr. Tissot from the Grand Hotel in Vevey. During the years that follow, the establishment is progressively modernised. In the early sixties there is a project to destroy the Hotel Eden and be replaced by an establishment ultra modern comprising of a 15 floor Tower. |
| 1974 | After the first petrol shock in 1974 The Hotel Eden escapes demolition. From1974 – 1995 a new start for the Hotel Eden thanks to the expertise of Carlo De Mercurio during a period of 10 years. At the start of the 1980’s the group CDM presided by Carlo de Mecurio acquire the establishment and it becomes " THE HOTEL EDEN au LAC " |

1975 | Charles Aznavour stays at the hotel during the month of October. |
1976 | August 5th celebrity pianist Sammy Price king of the blues, holds a concert in the < Salon Belle Epoque > The great pianist Sir Charles Thompson is invited to play at the Montreux Jazz Festival and stays at the Eden. Veronique Sanson, Charles Mingues & Dizzy Gillespie stay at the Eden in October 1976. |
1977 | The federal council of Switzerland (Mr. Chevellaz, Cevey, Gnaegi & Fugler ) attend a meeting in the Salon of the Hotel Eden. |
1979 | During February the group Eruption stay at the Eden |
1983 | Pop Star Christine Mc Vie stays at the Eden on September 3rd |
1990 | In the month of May Roger Moore stays at the Eden au Lac. |
1996 | Flaurent Pagny stays at the Eden au Lac from July 17th – 19th. |
1998 | Umberto Tozzi stays at the Eden au Lac on the 13th of June. |
